The Chamber of Commerce is seeking volunteers to become mentors for Mentoring Cayman. The programme matches high-achieving Year 11 students selected from all of Cayman’s high schools – both public and private – and matches them according to common interests, with established businesspeople, professionals and entrepreneurs from the local community, enabling them to receive guidance with the career pathways they have chosen.
Strong and supportive relationships are steadily built over the six-month duration of the programme, often transforming into long-term friendships which continue long after the official program has finished. Each of the young people are also encouraged to ‘shadow’ their mentor in their work environment, too, so that they get a taste of the working world and an understanding of habits and attitudes that underscore success.
Along with the mentees, who gain enormously from the experience, mentors often find the experience very rewarding and fulfilling as well. Having completed the 2023 programme, many mentors have chosen to become a mentor for a second time when the programme begins again this November. But The Chamber still needs many more volunteers, 25 in all, to ensure the success of the 2024 program.
If you feel you would like to contribute to the success of Cayman’s future leaders by becoming a mentor for Mentorship Cayman, you can find out more about what you need to apply, including a Police Clearance Certificate, and a Darkness to Light “Stewards of Children Certificate, by accessing the Mentoring Cayman on the Cayman Chamber website: https://www.caymanchamber.ky/events-training/signature-programmes/mentoring-cayman/
