The Department of Environmental Health (DEH) and the Flowers Group are excited to announce the resumption of the glass recycling programme. Residents are now encouraged to drop their glass waste at any of the nine recycling depots across Grand Cayman. DEH Director, Mr. Richard Simms explained that the resumption of the glass recycling programme aims not only to reduce the environmental impact of glass waste but also to promote sustainable practices among residents. “This public-private partnership fosters a sense of camaraderie and community while highlighting the collective responsibility in preserving the natural beauty of the Cayman Islands. It’s also a sustainable step forward to a cleaner and brighter future. We are looking forward to a long standing working relationship with the Flowers Group”, he said. One of the key components of the program is the use of the crushed glass in the manufacture of blocks, incorporating the recycled glass into a new product manufactured by Flowers Group. Mr. Frank Flowers, Managing Director of the Flowers Group, said “Flowers is a generational company. Our goal is to create success for the Cayman Islands for generations to come. This project is a small part of the bigger picture to achieve this objective. The glass recycling program in the Cayman Islands was originally initiated in 2012 and was temporarily suspended in 2022. Residents are encouraged to dispose of their glass waste into the traditional brown bins located at each the recycling deport across Grand Cayman for the responsible disposal of glass waste. These locations have been carefully chosen to ensure accessibility for all, whether you live in George Town, West Bay, or the North and Eastern districts. They are:  Foster’s at Republix Plaza, West Bay  Camana Bay Recycling Centre, West Bay  Kirk Supermarket, George Town  Foster’s at the Airport Centre, George Town  BarCam Service Station, Red Bay  Foster’s at Countryside Shopping Village, Bodden Town  Haig Bodden Sport Centre, Bodden Town  Craddock Ebanks Civic Centre, North Side  Captain George Dixon Park, East End The DEH is committed to continuing to serve the community while promoting sustainable practices among residents.
