An early morning road check by officers in the Eastern Districts led to the arrest of a man who supplied a false name to officers and the recovery of a quantity of ganja.

Shortly after 4.00 am on Wednesday (12 October 2011) officers, who were on routine patrol in the Savannah area, saw a white Honda Accord driving at high speed. The officers followed the vehicle and instructed the driver to stop.

When the officers spoke to the driver he provided them with a false name. A subsequent search of the car led to the discovery of over one pound of ganja in the trunk of the car.

The 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of ganja with intent to supply, consumption of ganja, and providing a false name to police officers.

Man charged and due in court A 21-year-old man has been charged and is due to appear in court later today following an incident last weekend where a man was threatened with a gun.

Just after midnight on Sunday 9 October two men, aged 21 and 28, were involved in an altercation in the Woods Close area of Bodden Town. During the incident the 21-year-old threatened the other man with what appeared to be a firearm. No shots were fired and no-one was injured.

The 21-year-old was arrested a short time later and has now been charged in connection with the incident.

He has been charged with possession of an imitation firearm with intent, threatening violence and theft.

It is anticipated that he will appear in court later today (Friday 14 October 2011).
