Upon the invitation of His Majesty The King, Her Excellency the Governor Jane Owen and Hon. Premier Wayne Panton are in the United Kingdom (UK) for The Coronation of Their Majesties The King and The Queen Consort, which will take place at Westminster Abbey in London on Saturday, 6 May.
Governor Owen and Premier Panton are expected to attend a number of events in the UK, including a reception at Buckingham Palace in advance of the Coronation, and a Small Islands Developing States Breakfast hosted by UK Foreign Secretary and Member of Parliament James Cleverly.
Premier Panton and members of his team will participate in a number of bilateral meetings and events, such as the UK Overseas Territories Association Political Council Meeting. The following week, Governor Owen and Premier Panton will be joined by Attorney General Samuel Bulgin, Minister for Financial Services and Commerce Hon. André Ebanks and Chief Officer for the Ministry of Financial Services and Commerce Dr. Dax Basdeo to attend the Cayman Finance Breakfast Briefing. The event scheduled for Wednesday, 10 May, is organised in partnership with the Ministry of Financial Services and Commerce.
At the invitation of Speaker of the House and Member of Parliament The Rt Hon. Sir Lindsay Hoyle, the Premier will attend the Prime Minister’s Questions session, where he will be able to observe Prime Minister The Rt. Hon. Rishi Sunak answering topical questions from Members of Parliament in the House of Commons Chamber.
Governor Owen, Premier Panton and Minister Ebanks will also attend the Overseas Territories Parliamentary Conference. This will be the first time the leaders of the Overseas Territories and senior UK parliamentarians have come together to debate and discuss issues of profound importance to the Territories.
The delegation comprising Governor Owen, Premier Panton and other members will also participate in the Overseas Territories Joint Ministerial Council plenary sessions, scheduled to take place from 11 May to 12 May. The Joint Ministerial Council is the highest forum for political dialogue and consultation between UK and elected leaders and representatives of the Overseas Territories, for the purposes of providing leadership and promoting cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Governor Owen and Premier Panton will be supported in the United Kingdom for various activities by a delegation including Cayman Islands Government-UK Representative Dr. Tasha Ebanks Garcia, Cabinet Secretary Samuel Rose and Deputy Chief Officer for Policy Coordination in the Cabinet Office Jason Webster. The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service and The Cayman Islands Regiment will also send representatives to the Coronation.
Deputy Premier Hon. Juliana Connor-Conolly will serve as Acting Premier in Premier Panton’s absence.
