The Ministry of Youth, Sports, Culture & Heritage (MYSCH) presents Cayman Christmas: A Celebration of Culture & Music Wednesday, 14 December, 5-9pm, West Bay Heritage Park.
“Cayman Christmas: A Celebration of Culture & Music brings together two lasting aspects of local life: food and music. The mini market gives local vendors and artisans the chance to display and sell their creations, while customers will have the opportunity to buy last-minute Christmas gifts, stocking stuffers and support our local artists; all against the backdrop of festive music and delicious food,” noted Minister for Youth, Sports, Culture & Heritage, Hon. Bernie Bush, MP.
With shopping and a children’s play area there will be much for everyone to enjoy at this festive event. Another feature will be MYSCH’s second, “Saturdays in the Park” competition. This song contest is free to the public and is scheduled for 7-9pm and will showcase choirs (seven or more singers) and singing groups (three to six singers), each performing up to three songs. One Christmas song will be chosen by the judging panel, and up to two others which must be either traditional/contemporary Gospel, praise and worship, or Christian hip hop. The performers will compete for cash prizes of ($3,000 (1st), $2,000 (2nd), and $1,000 (3rd), in front of an audience.
“The Cayman Islands is a Christian nation, whose residents - whether or not they worship regularly - look forward to celebrating Christmas in many ways. Performances by church and community choirs and singing groups have long been part of the season’s festivities. With the Cayman Christmas Choir Competition, we are harnessing the traditional pastimes of singing and listening to choirs and singing groups to strengthen and celebrate this popular cultural practice,” said Minister Bush
