The Ministry of Youth, Sports, Culture & Heritage (MYSCH) is inviting culinary professionals to register to enter the 2023 Young Chef Young Waiter (YCYW) competition. The deadline for entries is Tuesday, 1 August.
Cayman first took part in the globally renowned contest last year, and MYSCH is again partnering with Young Chef Young Waiter (YCYW) to support this year’s (YCYW) Cayman Islands competition with the landmark as title sponsor.
Last September’s local competition was won by Chef Brittany Bodden, formerly of Tomfoodery Kitchen, and Waiter Laurent Bodden of Grand Old House. The pair, having impressed the judges, went onto represent Cayman at the World Finals in Monaco over two days last November. They also took part in Cayman Cookout 2023 in January.
Established in 1979 and held in Cayman for the first time in 2022, the World Young Chef Young Waiter competition aims to promote careers in hospitality, and is open to all Caymanian professional chefs and waiters 28 years old or under (on 16 November 2023) who live and work in Cayman.
Entrants will vie for the top prize under the watchful eye of some of Cayman’s leading hospitality figures in the expert judging panel. The competition, as well as testing competitors’ ability, will also help them develop key skills and further contacts in the challenging contest of ability and potential.
Shortlisted entrants will compete in a live final and attend a competition day at the Ritz Carlton Grand Cayman on Monday, 4 September. The winners of the local competition will compete in the World Young Chef Young Waiter Final in November 2023.
