As part of the ongoing collaboration between the RCIPS and the Health Services Authority, staff from the RCIPS Air Operations Unit deployed in the police helicopter on Saturday morning, 6 July, to conduct flight familiarization training with paramedic Shawn Kelly.

During the flight, a report was received of a single vehicle collision on Anton Bodden Drive in Bodden Town, where a vehicle with three occupants had overturned. A decision was made by the crew to respond to the location, and they arrived first on scene, landing the helicopter in a nearby open field. Tactical Flight Officer and Deputy Unit Commander Neil Mohammed assisted Paramedic Kelly in conducting initial assessments of the injured parties, and this information was relayed to the ambulances which were on route. Emergency services, police, and fire officers attended the location and the occupants of the vehicle were transported to hospital for treatment for non-life threatening injuries. They were subsequently discharged.

“We were pleased to be able to provide assistance to the persons who were involved in the collision, while also having the opportunity to put our training with our HSA partners into practice,” said TFO Mohammed.

“The fact that we arrived first on scene and were able to assess the situation and triage the patients for handover to my fellow EMS colleagues, was an invaluable experience to have as part of this training,” said Paramedic Kelly, “Incidents like this reinforce the importance of the work that we are doing together with the RCIPS.”
