The Cayman Islands is currently under a Hurricane WATCH.
The Cayman Islands National Weather Service will continue to monitor the development of Category 5 Hurricane Beryl. Which at 7a.m., was located 938 miles east-southeast of Grand Cayman. Beryl is moving west northwest at 22 mph with maximum sustained winds of 165 mph.
Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and stay updated with the latest weather developments.
Light to moderate easterly winds and seas are expected across the Cayman area for the next 24 hours in association with a ridge of high pressure over the northern Caribbean. Further east, a tropical wave just east of the Cayman area is expected to move into our area overnight supporting an increase chance of cloudiness and showers. Radar images show isolated showers within the Cayman Islands area which are moving towards the west-northwest.
Forecast:
Today: Partly cloudy skies with a 30% chance of showers. Temperatures will rise to the upper 80’s °F with a heat index near 109 °F. Winds will be east to northeast at 10 to 15 knots. Seas will be moderate with wave heights of 3 to 5 feet.
Tonight: Partly cloudy skies with a 30% chance of showers. Temperatures will fall to the upper 70’s °F. Winds will be east to northeast at 5 to 10 knots. Seas will be slight to moderate with wave heights of 2 to 4 feet.
Outlook:
Expect scattered thunderstorms with overcast skies and strong winds is expected from Thursday morning as Hurricane Beryl passes to the south of the Cayman Islands. A marine warning will be in place as extremely rough seas are also expected.
