UCCI Students Take on Inaugural CFA Ethics Challenge

With its continued focus on maintaining the highest ethical standards, CFA Society of Cayman Islands (CFASCI) launched its Inaugural Ethics Challenge at the University College of The Cayman Islands (UCCI) on April 1^st.

“The Ethics Challenge asked UCCI students to analyse and evaluate a case study identifying ethical dilemmas based on the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct with the goal of increasing knowledge and professionalism among future leaders,” said Siddhant Jain Jaiswal, CFA, Audit Manager at EY. He represented CFASCI in hosting the event along with Richard Maparura, CFA, Education, and Membership Chairman.

The EY-sponsored event saw a total of seven teams, each with three members, battling it out to win the championship trophy which was claimed by former Student Representative Council President Charles Lewinson Jr., Tiffany Gilbert, and Aaliyah Knoxx. The winning team also took home Beats EP On-Ear headphones, and all competitors received gift certificates for their participation.

Partner Marco Calleja said. “Integrity and sound judgment are pillars of our industry, and it was inspiring to see that the students are so well prepared for their careers. The event was a great way to show our support for the Cayman Islands community and its future leaders.”

Dr. Belinda Blessitt-Vincent, Chair of the Department of Business Studies, said the participants did themselves and the institution proud. “As each team presented their case and responded to the judges’ questions, we all felt a sense of pride and accomplishment. Everyone was animated and resolutely defended their positions,” she said.

UCCI’s President and CEO, Dr. Stacy R. McAfee, joined senior leadership, faculty members students and parents who came out to support the participants. “I am so proud of our students who are embracing every opportunity they have to grow as ethical leaders. These opportunities are possible when strategic industry partners invest in the future of young adults attending UCCI. We are grateful to these partners whose shared vision and support is essential.”

The Business Studies Department is already looking forward to participating again in 2020. “We hope CFASCI will host this event again next year,” said Dr. Blessitt-Vincent. “Our faculty members will continue to work assiduously to support our students and ensure that they take advantage of such enriching opportunities.”
