Police Investigate Drug Importation that was Intercepted by the CICG and AOU, 24 November

Just after 11PM on Sunday, 21 November, the RCIPS Air Operations Unit together with Cayman Islands Coast Guard were conducting border security, and had cause to stop and search a vessel that was approximately 31 Nautical Miles south of Grand Cayman.

During the search of the vessel, a number of packages believed to be cocaine were found and seized. The two males on board the vessel, ages 31 and 30, both of Bodden Town, were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the importation of cocaine. The arrested men and the vessel were taken to Grand Cayman.

On Tuesday, 23 November, following further investigation, the two men were jointly charged with Illicit Trafficking and Being Concerned in the Importation of Cocaine contrary to the Misuse of Drugs Act (2017 Revision). The 31-year-old man was further charged with Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm (Ammunition) contrary to the Firearms Act (2008 Revision).

Both men appeared before the Summary Court today, Wednesday, 24 November, and were remanded in custody pending a further appearance.

George Town Man Charged with Burglary, 24 November

A 28-year-old-man of George Town has been charged with Burglary in accordance with the Penal Code (2019 Revision).

The charge is in relation to a burglary incident that was reported to the police on 21 November at a residence on West Bay Road, George Town, where electronics and a quantity of cash was stolen. Shortly after the report was made, the George Town man was arrested in relation to the incident and taken into custody, where was held as the investigations continued.

The George Town man appeared in court yesterday, but the matter was postponed until today.

UPDATE: Man Charged Following Incident on Elgin Avenue, 24 November

The man, age 44 of George Town, who was arrested on Friday afternoon, 19 November, in relation to an incident on Elgin Avenue the previous day, has now been charged with Threats to Kill, Resisting Arrest, and Possession of an Offensive Weapon, in relation to the incident. He was also charged with two counts each of Driving Without Insurance, Using a Vehicle with Expired Registration and Using a Vehicle Without a Valid Certificate of Roadworthiness.

The man appeared in court on Monday, 22 November, and was remanded in custody pending a further appearance.

 

Man Arrested for Assaulting Police and Other Offenses Following Vehicle Stop, 24 November

On Monday evening, 22 November, firearms officers conducting a vehicular checkpoint along Shamrock Road in the vicinity of Armstrong Drive, had cause to stop a vehicle approaching the checkpoint. When officers attempted to speak to the driver of the vehicle, the front seat passenger began to act in a loud and aggressive manner, and obstructed the officers’ attempts to carry out their duties.

The officers warned the passenger against obstructing their efforts, however he continued. Officers informed the man that he was being arrested for disorderly conduct, however the man refused to exit the vehicle and resisted the officers’ attempts to restrain him, while kicking and striking at the officers. As a result, a taser was deployed and discharged by the officers. The man, age 21 of Bodden Town, was subsequently arrested for disorderly conduct, obstructing police, resisting arrest, and assaulting police.

He has been granted bail as investigations continue.
