Airport Post Office Extends Hours for COVID-19

The Cayman Islands Postal Service (CIPS) will extend opening hours at the Airport Post Office (APO) in view of COVID-19 social distancing protocols.

Starting Monday, 27 September 2021, APO extended hours will allow more time for customers to visit in order to transact any business.

The new APO opening hours will be 7.15 am to 6.30 pm, Mondays to Fridays and 9 am to 12.30 pm, Saturdays until further notice.

All other post offices on all three islands will retain their existing opening hours.

Additionally, the CIPS is improving the way customers collect their imported dutiable items. From Monday, customers can collect the items on which duty is due from any post office, not just the APO.

For the time being, the arrived items will be held at the APO. However, customers can contact the Postal Service by email at cipscustomercare@gov.ky or via WhatsApp at +1-345-916-6535 to request the item be forwarded for collection at any post office they choose. To enable this, the customer should provide the item’s tracking number and their chosen post office.

“If a request is received by 8 am, the item can be collected that same working day. Requests received after 8 am will be available the following working day,” Deputy Postmaster General Ms Melissa Martinez-Ebanks elaborated.

Also, from Monday next week, the CIPS will suspend delivery in person of registered items received. Instead, the items will be delivered to post office boxes wherever a PO Box number is provided in the address.

“This also means the CIPS will not collect a signature on delivery of registered items nor collect the name of the person receiving the item,” the Deputy PMG explained.

Similarly, the CIPS will no longer require signatures to be provided on delivery of parcels and EMS items. “Presenting a photo ID will continue to be necessary when collecting these items but a signature will no longer be requested,” the Deputy PMG added.

Postmaster General Ms Sheena Glasgow commented, “The CIPS is committed to ensuring prescribed COVID-19 protocols are strictly followed so that our customers are comfortable entering our post offices to conduct their business. The APO provides a number of services and given that the customer service area is very small, it can easily become crowded. With wait times likely to increase because of the regulated six-feet social distancing, we are therefore extending the opening hours to benefit our customers.”
