Following the departure of the previous Director of Public Prosecutions and the temporary appointment of Mrs. Candia James-Malcolm as the Acting Director of Public Prosecutions, the Judicial and Legal Services Commission undertook a formal recruitment exercise for the permanent post of DPP.
Further to this recruitment exercise by the Judicial and Legal Services Commission, His Excellency the Governor, Martyn Roper, OBE has appointed Mr. Simon Davis as the Director of Public Prosecutions effective 1 March 2022. Mr. Davis comes with significant prosecutorial, leadership, and management experience which will be an asset to the ODPP.
“I am delighted to appoint Mr Davis to this role and look forward to welcoming him to our Islands. I would like to thank Mrs. James-Malcolm for her excellent stewardship during the transition,” His Excellency said. “Led by Mr. Davis and supported by Mrs. James-Malcolm, the senior leadership team and all the staff in the ODPP, I am confident that the ODPP will be strengthened. The ODPP continues to have an essential role underpinning the rule of law in our jurisdiction, a fundamental element of our democratic system” he continued.
Mr. Davis comes to Cayman from St Philips Chambers, Birmingham, UK and his appointment is for a period of three years.
