The Bodden Town District Heritage Committee came away triumphant as the winners of this year’s 2019 District Heritage Ambassador Costume Competition (DHACC) held at the Pirates Week Culture Shop event on Monday 11th November.

Model Kevie-Ann Pierre took the 2019 title and the $500 top prize, with the costume ‘Queen of the Wrecks’. The gold and white dress with blue wavy bands represented the sea while the vibrant and colourful back piece detailed the wreck of the merchant ship 'Elizabeth' (Wreck of the Ten Sails).

Also featured is the Cayman Islands motto ‘He Hath Founded It Upon the Seas’ situated among Silver Thatch Palm and the Green Sea Turtle, depicting Cayman’s historical reliance on both land-based and water-based resources.

The DHACC’s first runner up is George Town’s Erickah Bodden for her costume ‘The Sunken Treasure of the Harbour’, while West Bay’s Brandi Connolly placed second runner up with her costume ‘Soul of Ships’. Both received cash prizes of $300 and $200 respectively.

The costumes were judged on their authenticity, presentation on stage by the model, the designer’s use of Caymanian products, use of detail and relevance to the Festival’s theme.

The events was organised by Pirates Week DHACC lead volunteers Monique Burton and Shakira Miller.
