The Cayman Islands Cadet Corps (CICC) concluded its 20^th-Anniversary camp on Friday 15 July 2022 after welcoming over 35 Cadets from the Jamaica Combined Cadet Force (JCCF), Turks and Caicos Islands Cadet Corps (TCICC), and Barbados Cadet Corps (BCC) with local cadets from both Grand Cayman and the Sister Islands.

Under the theme “20 years of youth development, utilising the past to fortify the future”, “Camp Titan” held at Clifton Hunter High School formed part of the yearlong 20^th Anniversary Celebrations of the Cayman Islands Cadet Corps. Throughout the two-week camp, Cadets underwent various activities from culinary arts, archery, basic fire-fighting skills, orienteering and patrols, first aid, physical fitness, quiz competitions, and health and safety. In addition, to multi-agency training with other uniform services through activities such as Watermanship, which included kayaking along the shoreline of Barkers Beach in West Bay under the supervision of the Cayman Islands Coast Guard personnel and Orientation training on one of the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service helicopters.

Speaking at the closing ceremony on Friday 15 July 2022, CICC Acting Commandant Lt. Col. Errol Brathwaite remarked “Undoubtedly, most if not all of you arrived at “Camp Titan” not knowing what to expect. Throughout the past two weeks, you were exposed to experiences that thrust you into a high level of competition, where teamwork was required to succeed. Most notable are the shared experiences, cultures and life lessons from individual territories while developing friendships across. Over the last two weeks, we have achieved our goal towards standardising cadet training across the Caribbean region while building on the Corps’ great impact on Cayman Islands’ youth and support for our nation’s wider community.”

The CICC continues to play a key role in the development of the Cayman Islands’ resilience and national security, across all three Islands. Over the years many young Caymanian cadets have matriculated into employment opportunities in entities such as the Cayman Islands Coast Guard, Cayman Islands Fire Service, Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, Customs and Border Control, Cayman Islands Regiment, Department of Public Safety Communications (911) and Hazard Management Cayman Islands.

Minister of Home Affairs, Hon. Sabrina Turner, commented: “The Cayman Islands Government embraces the Cadet Corps as an important youth development organisation. I am sure the Governments of our visiting contingents similarly support youth development in their respective jurisdictions. Bringing young men and women from across the region into a camp such as this indicates the synergies among Caribbean people. It is a reminder that we must continue investing in the future by protecting and guiding our youth, as you are tomorrow’s future.”
