CARIBE WAVE, an annual regional tsunami exercise is slated to take place on Thursday, 20 March at approximately 10am local time. The exercise is part of an international effort coordinated by the Intergovernmental Coordination Group for the Tsunami and Other Coastal Hazards Warning System for the Caribbean and Adjacent Regions (ICG/CARIBE-EWS) under UNESCO’s Oceanographic Commission (IOC). CARIBE WAVE aims to enhance tsunami preparedness and response across the Caribbean region.
CARIBE WAVE Regional Tsunami Exercise
Location: Various schools and businesses throughout the Cayman Islands
Time: begins at approximately 10am
National Emergency Notifications System (NENS) users will receive the following alert, accompanied by a loud tone:

The Government of the Cayman Islands has issued an Emergency Alert. The public is being advised that at 10:00 AM a magnitude 7.9 earthquake, depth 15.5 miles has occurred off the eastern coast of Jamaica.

Participating schools and entities will execute their earthquake and tsunami preparedness drills during the scenario under the observation of regional and local emergency preparedness experts.
