Representatives from the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism, including Director of Tourism Rosa Harris and US National Sales Manager, Daniel Taugher, were on hand to support George Nowak, better known as the Barefoot Man, as he took centre stage at Chief’s on Broadway in Nashville on Sunday, 22 September bringing the spirit of the Cayman Islands to Music City.
The public, ticketed event saw Barefoot Man joined by well-known Nashville based musicians Keith Stegall and Michael White on stage in a unique format called “pick pass” where one musician passed the pick along to create a joint tapestry of storytelling and song.
The event highlighted, the TikPik, a revolutionary guitar pick that sticks to the surface of a guitar without using chemicals, adhesives or leaving behind a residue.
TikPik, developed by Jake Lyda, Kevin McDonald, and Nick Nowak (son of The Barefoot Man), uses nano-suction technology to adhere to instruments, preventing the common issue of losing picks during performances. Mark Cuban invested in the product after seeing its potential on Shark Tank.
As well as attending in person, the Cayman Islands also helped amplify the performance with a promotional push to previous Cayman Islands visitors located in the Nashville area.
“Nashville and the Cayman Islands have a strong history and connection through a shared love of music,” said Rosa Harris, Director of Tourism. “We are proud to support events like the Pick Pass concert that highlight Caymanian talent and showcase the Cayman Islands as a prime destination for creative collaboration.”
