The Cayman Islands has been placed on the United Kingdom’s green list of countries deemed safe to travel to and from.

“This is indeed excellent and welcomed news,” said Premier Hon. Wayne Panton. “I once again thank the Governor and his office for their tireless assistance in getting us off the amber list and into the green category.”

The UK Government implemented a traffic light system to identify countries it deems safe or unsafe to travel. The Cayman Islands had been placed on the amber list, which meant UK residents were cautioned not to travel here unless it was an emergency.

Under the green list, people traveling from the Cayman Islands to the UK will need to take a pre-departure test as well as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test on or before day two of their arrival back into the UK – but will not need to quarantine on return unless they receive a positive result or take any additional tests.

“This means that the UK has recognised our excellent record in relation to our management of COVID-19,” Mr. Panton said. “I cannot thank the UK Government enough for providing us with free vaccine. I also thank the people in the Cayman Islands who have taken the opportunity to get vaccinated. I still urge anyone who has not taken the vaccine to do so in order to help keep our residents safe once we are able to reopen our border.”
