In a concerted effort to enhance road safety in the Cayman Islands, the Cayman Motoring Federation (CMF) recently convened with the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) and the Ministry of Planning, Agriculture, Housing, and Infrastructure. The discussions centered around strategies to address road safety challenges and promote responsible driving practices across the islands.
A key focus of the meeting was the presentation of the Road Safety Index published by the FIA, a comprehensive analysis that benchmarks and assesses road safety performance globally. The insights provided by the index will serve as a valuable resource for the Cayman Islands as they work towards further strengthening their road safety measures.
The collaboration between the Cayman Motoring Federation and the FIA signifies a commitment to fostering a culture of safety on Cayman's roads. The FIA, as a global authority on automotive safety and mobility, brings a wealth of experience and best practices to support local initiatives aimed at reducing accidents and improving overall road safety standards. Mr. Coen noted “The addition of CMF to the FIA family provides an opportunity for collaboration between the island's authorities and FIA members to implement actions aimed at improving citizen mobility and road safety."
During the discussions, the FIA engaged with representatives from local automobile clubs and various stakeholders with a vested interest in motor sports and mobility. This inclusive approach ensures that diverse perspectives are considered in the development of a strategic plan and effective road safety strategies tailored to the unique needs of the Cayman Islands.
"The Cayman Motoring Federation is honored to work alongside the FIA and to connect with the Ministry of Planning, Agriculture, Housing, and Infrastructure to address road safety concerns in our community," said Jane Scaletta, President at CMF. "By leveraging the expertise and resources of the FIA, we aim to implement evidence-based solutions that will contribute to a safer and more secure road environment for all residents and visitors."
The collaboration also seeks to promote awareness and education on road safety, encouraging responsible driving behavior through community outreach programs, educational campaigns, and partnerships with local schools and organizations.
As the Cayman Islands continue to grow and develop, the CMF, FIA, and local stakeholders remain committed to making strides in road safety, fostering a safer environment for motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists alike.
