The Cayman Islands Airports Authority (CIAA) is pleased to announce that in support of its strategy to attract, retain and develop the careers of Caymanians in Air Traffic Control and other jobs within the Authority, Ms. Daysi Martin, Air Traffic Controller (ATC) Trainee, completed her overseas ATC training at the Trinidad & Tobago Aviation Centre in December 2018.
Ms. Martin began her training back in September 2017 with on-the-job training in Cayman Brac, which covered Aeronautical Information Services (AIS), Airport Operations, MET and ATC procedures. She completed her local training in August 2018, and then went on to complete the overseas training in four months. Ms. Martin is currently a student Air Traffic Controller at Owen Roberts International Airport (ORIA), undergoing her local on-the-job training specific to the Cayman Islands with a local instructor. Ms. Martin is designated to take up her duties at the Charles Kirkconnell International Airport (CKIA) in Cayman Brac once she completes her on-the-job training and is certified and checked out as an Air Traffic Control Officer (ATCO) by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of the Cayman Islands.
At the CKIA Tower, she will be working under the supervision of Mr. Joshua Burke and will accompany three other Cayman Brac ATCOs. The ATC in Cayman Brac is also recruiting and training two other ATCOs in order to maintain the regulatory mandated manning levels for an ATC Tower at an international airport.
“The CIAA is very pleased with Daysi’s performance to date and her successful completion of her overseas ATC training,” said Chief Airport Operations Officer Mr. Wayne DaCosta. “We look forward to her successful completion of the on-the-job certification as an Air Traffic Control Officer and joining such a great team of people who work hard every day at keeping our skies safe.”
