Gary, who is Caymanian, has been with the Department of Tourism for 12 years where he started as Marketing Events Officer and then worked in various roles in both the National Promotion and Events and E-Business Units. His past experiences at the Cayman Islands Tourism Association, Cayman Turtle Centre and Digicel brings in additional experience and insight to round out his experience with CIDOT in marketing, events, and project and strategic management.
As Deputy Director of International Marketing and Promotions, Gary will oversee the activities of the department’s marketing teams, which include the E-Business and Research, Public Relations, and National Promotions and Events Units. He will lead the strategic development of the marketing of the Cayman Islands, both locally and internationally and report directly to Director of Tourism, Mrs. Rosa Harris.
Gary’s history with the CIDOT has involved managing stakeholder relations, leading key promotions, and helping to attain strategic goals for the department. Most recently, Gary was a key part of leading and supporting the Border Reopening Plan and the implementation of the Global Citizen Concierge Programme framework.
“Gary is a valuable member of the CIDOT, he brings an innovative and fresh perspective to his work and encourages the members of his team to do the same. The past 20 months have been a challenge for the tourism industry and country, but Gary has worked relentlessly to find solutions and a way forward,” said Mrs. Rosa Harris, Director of Tourism. “I am excited to see the evolution of our marketing and promotions under Gary’s strategic leadership.”
Gary is the most recent appointment in the CIDOT, which has seen two new appointments and four new hires in the past six months in all areas of the department. All new hires and appointments are Caymanian.
“The CIDOT is pleased that it can foster the development of talented Caymanians and offer them a career in tourism, one of our country’s pillars. The knowledge and passion they bring for the development of our tourism product greatly benefits our country,” said Mrs. Harris.
