On Thursday, 10th October, Clifton Hunter High School held its annual graduation ceremony in the school's gymnasium, celebrating the achievements of 151 students under the inspiring theme: "It always seems impossible until it is done."

Principal Dr. Villence Buchanan delivered a heartfelt address, commending the students for their outstanding performance. “In terms of academic excellence, Clifton Hunter High School continues to shine brightly on both the national and regional stage,” she stated.

Key achievements from the 2024 graduating class include:

  • 151 students graduated, marking a 95% graduation rate
  • 61% of students earned Level 2 Honours or higher
  • 16 subject areas achieved a 90% pass rate
  • Students earned regional merit list awards in three subjects: Integrated Science, Theatre Arts, and Visual Arts
  • 10 subjects recorded a 100% pass rate, including Biology, Economics, English B, Information Technology, Office Administration, Theatre Arts, Physical Education, Additional Mathematics, BTEC Business, and BTEC Workskills

Dr. Buchanan continued, “We not only have the highest number of passes but also the highest grades. This confirms that Clifton Hunter High School truly embodies excellence, and we stand tall knowing that we deliver on our promise to give our students nothing but the best.”

As students prepare to embark on the next chapter of their lives, Dr. Buchannan encouraged them to remember this moment. “You have already proven that no challenge is insurmountable and no goal unattainable. The world beyond these walls will present new challenges, but just as you have done here, you will persevere, rise above, and succeed. Let this graduation serve as a reminder that you are capable of greatness. Revel in your accomplishments—the impossible has already been done, and now the future awaits, full of possibilities for you to embrace. You are ready, and we believe in you.”

The ceremony was honoured by the presence of several distinguished guests, including Premier, Honourable Julianna O'Connor-Connolly, JP, Honourable Dwayne Seymour, Honourable Jay Ebanks, MP, Honourable Isaac Rankine, JP, MP, and Mr. Chris Saunders, MP, alongside a host of other esteemed dignitaries. Their attendance highlighted the significance of the event and their shared pride in the achievements of the graduating class. The Premier and other guests were warmly welcomed by the school community and commended the students on their remarkable accomplishments.

The keynote address was delivered by Pastor Obed Babb, who shared his personal journey of growing up in a family of eight siblings in a rural area without electricity. Despite not graduating from high school, he achieved certification as an adult and encouraged students to "embrace the process." He said, “You make good of every opportunity, for each of you has the capacity and the ability to accomplish something meaningful. Refuse to compare yourself to others, especially when you don’t know their journey.”

Valedictorian Jhenelle Colquhoon reflected on the challenges and triumphs that shaped her and her fellow graduates. She emphasised the importance of gratitude and humility, reminding her classmates that, “As we transition to the next stage in life, let us remember: we can dream big, we can strive for excellence, and yes, we can succeed.”

The Ministry of Education and the Department of Education Services proudly congratulate the Clifton Hunter High School Class of 2024 on their remarkable achievements and wish them continued success in all their future endeavours.
