Covid 19

The Department of Children and Family Services has been informed today that four staff members and three residents of Kirkconnell Community Care Centre in Cayman Brac have tested positive for Covid-19.

The three residents have all been vaccinated as well as having a vaccine booster dose; of the three residents, two are hospitalised and stable, and one is asymptomatic.  Among the staff members who tested positive, three are vaccinated and one unvaccinated.

All staff members and residents have been tested subsequently with PCR tests, and results are pending. Should there be further positive cases, appropriate measures will be taken for isolation and a continuum of care.

Additional protocols immediately were put in place by the KCCC, with additional review and approval by the Health Services Authority. The home has an Annex where any asymptomatic patient(s) will be cared for by nursing staff until they are fully recovered.

The Kirkconnell Community Care Centre (KCCC) has 21 residents, and is managed by the Department of Children and Family Services. Along with other care homes, KCCC implemented a “no visitors” policy as of last year and continues to maintain this policy.  In October 2021, along with all other Government residential care homes, the KCCC implemented a daily testing regime and protocol with Lateral Flow Tests provided by the Ministry of Investment, Innovation and Social Development (see more information here:  https://www.gov.ky/news/press-release-details/miisd-cv19-november2021).
