The Premier and Minister for Finance, Education, District Administration & Lands and Cabinet Office, Honourable Juliana O'Connor-Connolly, officially opened the new three-lane walking and athletic track at the Creek Primary School on Friday (19 January). 

   The Acting Chief Officer for the Ministry of Education (MoE), Ms. Lyneth Monteith, delivered opening remarks. She highlighted the track's importance, calling it not just a space for physical education and sporting activities but also "a springboard for student engagement, a catalyst for health and well-being, a sanctuary for unearthing hidden athletic potential, and a bridge to stronger bonds with the rest of the Cayman Brac community."

    Ms. Monteith also remarked that the track underscored the Ministry of Education's commitment to enhancing school facilities and creating robust educational systems and programmes.

   Premier O'Connor-Connolly emphasised that the track's benefits extend beyond the school. "This track isn't just for Creek Primary; it's for everyone," she declared. "We have purchased an adjacent parcel of land to construct an accessway for community members. And once the public accessway is completed, the track will serve as a gathering place, a competition ground, a space for the community to connect."

   The Premier further announced that work has commenced on a similar track at the West End Primary School. "We're building a network of opportunity, an archipelago of athletic dreams, where every child has a chance to shine," she stated.

   The oval asphalt track, which spans a circumference of 200 metres in adherence to World Athletics standards, was done in collaboration with Scott's Development and the Public Works Department.

Physical Education teacher at Cayman Brac Primary Schools, Ms. Lavender Bryan, spoke about the importance of physical fitness and the track's potential to foster a lifelong love of exercise.

   Creek Primary School Principal, Ms. Margaret Juman, delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks. She expressed appreciation to all those who made the project a reality, particularly the Premier, the Ministry of Education, the Department of Education Services and the project team.

   Also in attendance at the ceremony was the Member of Parliament for Cayman Brac West and Little Cayman, Mr. Moses Kirkconnell, Acting Deputy Chief Officers Mr. Adrian Jones (emcee) and Mr. Jerome McCoy, DES Director Mr. Mark Ray, Deputy Director Mr.Elroy Bryan, Deputy District Commissioner, Ms. Chelsea Whittaker, representatives from the MoE, DES, and Public Works Department, staff, students, parents, and community members.
