Employees of Caribbean Utilities Company, Ltd. (CUC) have agreed to help those less fortunate in the Grand Cayman community. The employees have authorised for monthly deductions from their salaries to be donated to the Needs Assessment Unit (NAU). The “Because We Care” employee initiative was created to allow CUC employees to assist families in need, particularly those whose finances have been negatively impacted due to COVID-19. The initiative is CUC’s own version of the of the recent “CIG Cares” initiative where civil servants opt-in for monthly payroll deductions to help local families in need of financial assistance. The “Because We Care” initiative will work in partnership with the Ministry of Community Affairs and the NAU that assist several families who are in need. Each month the Company will provide a cheque to the NAU until December 2020. Pat Bynoe-Clarke, Manager Corporate Communications, stated that, “The employees at CUC are always looking for ways to help those less fortunate. The “Because We Care” initiative provided an opportunity for us to give-up a portion our salaries so that persons less fortunate than ourselves can benefit. COVID -19 has impacted all of us, but those of us who can give back are happy to do so. Initiatives of this nature reflect the ‘Cayman Kind’ which we at CUC find important to be a part of.” . 2 . Ms. Tamara Hurlston, Director of NAU expressed her satisfaction with such initiatives like this one. She stated that, “As a country, we all have a social responsibility to assist our fellowmen by uplifting one another and providing financial and other support. I encourage other corporations and individuals to follow the lead of the CUC by assisting those in need who continue to be impacted by COVID-19 and other financial challenges.” The “Because We Care” Initiative commenced on July 2020 and will continue until the end of December 2020. Employees are encouraged to donate whatever they can afford each month towards this worthy cause.
