A team of five Cayman Islands Fire Service (CIFS) officers and personnel cooked more than 50 plates of brown stewed pork and curry chicken for older persons in the community last week (Friday, 7 May 2021).

Also on the menu was rice and beans, macaroni and cheese, green salad, and a side of chicken soup. Volunteers from the Meals on Wheels programme, including Royal Cayman Islands Police Service Officers, stopped by the Central Fire Station to pick-up the prepared food.

The Cayman Islands Fire Service (CIFS) started its monthly contributions to the Meals on Wheels (MoW) programme, as part of the Islands’ response to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The CIFS team has continued to offer roughly the same number of cooked meals to MoW on the last Friday in each month ever since.

All staff taking part first received training in food handling from the Department of Environmental Health.

In addition to the monthly support for Meals on Wheels, CIFS also organises an annual barbecue for Sunrise Centre. The fire service also hosts school tours as part of its support for the wider Cayman Islands community.
