In an effort to ensure that evidence-based parenting information and strategies are more readily available to all parents within our community, the Family Resource Centre (FRC) has launched a free, telehealth service for parents within all three of our Islands.
Parent Phone Consultations is a free 30-minute phone or Zoom session aimed at supporting parents from the comfort of their own homes, at a time that is convenient to them, and is solely focused on discussing their unique concerns based on their family’s needs.
“This new service is especially helpful for parents that are feeling uncertain of what methods are recommended for supporting a child’s healthy development, managing behaviour or want strategies to improve the quality of their family relationships,” explains Anne-Marie Diaz, Programme Coordinator for the FRC. “It’s also a great starting point for parents wanting to get professional parenting advice, which can lead to ongoing parenting support based on the needs of the family,” she adds.
The FRC’s strength-based parenting approach recognises the positive practices parents are already employing, allowing the team of trained parenting practitioners to provide reassurance coupled with a friendly, empathic and non-judgmental ear to bounce ideas off of to promote and support healthy family relationships.
During the parenting consultation phone session with the Parenting Practitioner, a parent has an opportunity to seek further parenting support through in-person services offered at the FRC individually or within a group setting. The FRC continues to provide a wide range of free services and programmes to equip families with tools and strategies to parent confidently.
