The Department of Education Services (DES) advises parents and guardians that the Government School Registration Portal closes at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, 31 January, marking the end of applications for the 2023/2024 school year.
"We look forward to welcoming a new generation of learners for the 2024/2025 academic year," says DES Director, Mr. Mark Ray. "Registration opens on 1 March, offering families
ample time to prepare for the new school year starting in August."
Mr. Ray emphasizes the importance of submitting applications early during the Standard Registration Period, which runs from 1 March to 30 June 2024. "Applying early is crucial for securing your child's spot in a school in your catchment area," he explains. "Enrollment is based on a first-come, first-served basis, aligned with our established priority list."
The 2024/2025 school year programme offerings in Government schools are:
- In Grand Cayman:
- Nursery for Caymanian children only who turn three (3) years old before 1 September 2024. This is only for children living in the North Side and East End Districts.
- Reception for Caymanian children only who turn four (4) years old before 1 September 2024. Reception is available in all Primary Schools.
- Compulsory Schooling for Primary and Secondary (High School) children aged five (5) years old before 1 September 2024 to children aged sixteen (16) years old before 1 September 2024.
2. In Cayman Brac
- Nursery for children who turn three (3) years old before 1 September 2024.
- Reception for children who turn four (4) years old before 1 September 2024.
- Compulsory Schooling for Primary and Secondary (High School) children aged five (5) years old before 1 September 2024 to children aged sixteen (16) years old before 1 September 2024.

- Compulsory Schooling for Primary children aged five (5) years old before 1 September 2024 to children aged ten (10) years old before 1 September 2024. The Little Cayman Services is open based on need.
For compulsory schooling in Grand Cayman and all schooling in Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, the priority list of enrollment is:
- Caymanians
- Refugees and Asylum Seekers
- Dependents of Caymanians:
- Children pending Caymanian status, whereby the parents have already been granted status
- Dependents of persons married to Caymanians
- Children adopted by Caymanian parents
- Court approved Caymanian Residence Order holders
- Dependents of Contracted Government Employees
- Dependents of Permanent Residents
- Dependents of Work Permit Holders
