The district of East End welcomed its newest tourism property on Saturday 1 February 2020. Conceived, built and owned by Caymanian Lynn Bodden, this small boutique resort property, located in Colliers, East End, is comprised of ten (10) bed and breakfast style cottages overlooking the beautiful Caribbean Sea.
Each uniquely named and decorated cottage features kitchenettes allowing for convenience of self-catering and relaxation on guests’ own schedule; luxurious bathroom and amenities in a fresh clean, crisp and modern island-style layout. Guests can expect breakfast daily and other Caymanian amenities during their stay with the aim of flexibility and relaxation. In order to cater to different target audiences such as couples or families, cottages are configured with either two (2) queen sized beds or one king size bed, sleeping up to four (4) per room plus an optional family style adjoining suite. Guests will be welcomed in the main Greathouse when they arrive with an island-themed drink making registration easy and laid-back. That main building also houses a modern kitchen and gym. At the centre of the resort is an infinity edge pool with a large expansive pool deck to enjoy the tropical weather and environment.
Owner Lynn M. Bodden remarked, “It’s been my dream for many years to retire from my law practise and to own and operate a bed and breakfast style property here on Grand Cayman. I believe that with some of the large developments, while there is demand for larger properties, we have lost some of the Caymanian culture and one-on-one service for which the Caymanian tourism product was built.” She continued, “I enjoy this type of client service and interaction and love sharing my beloved island with others. I felt there is a need for boutique tourism products and wanted to ensure my guests experience Caymanian culture from the moment they arrive.” Having parents like Keith and Glorcye Baldwin for parents, entrepreneurship and tourism is in Lynn’s blood, she grew up in the tourism industry and is known for her caring, generous nature and she loves of entertaining.
Saturday’s grand opening was also conceived and planned by Lynn and executed by a small group of her friends, including local food that guests will come to experience in East End ….Cayman style beef and rice and beans, fried fish and fritters, conch soup, corned beef and tuna sandwiches, jerked pork and chicken, local pepper jellies and preserves to name a few. With over 200 people in attendance, guest were greeted by local steel-pan music as they arrived with a tiki-bar serving wine, champagne and fruit punch and water.
Rolston Anglin, emceed the event with opening remarks being given by George Town MLA and Tourism Councilor David Wight; Mr. Norman Bodden of Bodden Corporate Services – Lynn’s second father and work colleague offered remarks from his daughter and Lynn’s business partner at Bodden & Bodden - Sherri Bodden Cowan. Mr. Bodden also blessed the property and offered the vote of thanks to those that have participated and supported in the building of the resort. Derri Dacres sang a beautiful rendition of the National Song – Beloved Isle Cayman and Erica Assai entertained with an acapella version of “Halleujah.” The ribbon was then cut by Lynn and her daughter Kaylyn Bodden, Lynn’s sister-in-law Bettina Baldwin, Paula McCartney - friend and realtor who found the property in East End several years ago and David Moffit, who was the consultant to the project.
Later local DJ “Super C” entertained guests as they transitioned from the front of the resort after the ribbon-cutting ceremony to the central area on the pool deck and beach area for a night of dancing under the stars. Tours of two of the cottages were conducted so that guests could see first-hand the exquisite experience awaiting visitors and residents alike if they stay at The Cottages.
