Police Inspector Antonio Hanna who was the ‘HeforShe’ Award recipient for the BOT Women in Policing Network in March, 2024, was selected to represented the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service at the International Women in Policing Conference (IAWP), held in Chicago, Illinois between 1st and 4th September, 2024, the theme for which was “We Serve, We Protect, We Lead”.

His attendance, was funded by the Foreign Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO), who has been partnering with the RCIPS, guiding the organisation as we establish and develop our own Women in Policing Network (WiPN).

Inspector Hanna, who is also the current ‘HeforShe’ representative for the RCIPS WiPN, following the official selection process, which took place in June, 2024, was eager to share his experience and important finding from attending the IAWP Conference.

Inspector Hanna stated “I had the privilege to attend the International Association of Women Police (IAWP)2024 Conference held in Chicago under the theme "We Serve, We Protect, We Lead. Attending this conference has provided valuable insights into advancing gender equity, enhancing mental health resources, and fostering stronger leadership within the various law enforcement agencies throughout the world. As HeForShe representative for WIPN RCIPS, I look forward to continuing to champion the growth of women in our organization by supporting each other in leadership and professional growth, as we lead by example in creating a more inclusive and effective law enforcement environment.”

Since the implementation of the Women in Policing Network, the working group has been living up to the vision of the RCIPS WiPN of “Enable, Inspire and Empower” as they continue to partner with the FCDO, sending various members away to the conferences and training in order to equip them with the knowledge and expertise required to develop both individually and as an organisation.

We look forward to hearing more from RCIPS WiPN as they continue to grow and influence the organisation with their chose path of equity and fairness.
