On Tuesday, countries and citizens across the globe unite to celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPWD). The annual awareness day, observed on 3 December, highlights the strength, resilience, and contributions of individuals with disabilities. It also serves as a reminder of the shared commitment to fostering an inclusive society where everyone, regardless of ability, can thrive.
“A truly inclusive society is one where every individual is valued and has the opportunity to contribute. This sentiment underscores the importance of the National Council for Persons with Disabilities' (NCPD) mission and the collective responsibility we all share. I am proud to have the Council under my remit and applaud the hard work of the members," said Premier Honourable Juliana O'Connor Connolly.
Chair of the NCPD, Dr Annette Stephenson, said, "We encourage everyone to reflect on the importance of accessibility and acceptance. It’s essential that we break down barriers—whether physical, social, or attitudinal—that hinder participation and equality. Together, we can create an environment where individuals with disabilities are empowered to achieve their full potential.”
