Joint Statement from Governor & Premier - Letter of Thanks for Hurricane Beryl Cooperation
25 July 2024, 05:00 PM
Weather, Government

Excellency the Governor Mrs. Jane Owen and Honourable Premier Juliana O'Connor-Connolly have released the following joint letter of thanks today, Thursday, 25 July 2024:

As we look back on Hurricane Beryl and thank Almighty God for His blessings and protection in this difficult time, we wanted to share this message with you today.

It is with pride and gratitude that we join in thanking everyone across Government and beyond, who contributed to the preparation, response and recovery phases of Hurricane Beryl this month. This involved a massive joint effort, drawing in resources from the private sector and volunteers, to put the Cayman Islands in the strongest possible position to withstand whatever the natural elements had in store for us.

Thank you to Hazard Management Cayman Islands, the members of our National Emergency Operations Centre, our Department of Communications, Cayman Islands National Weather Service, shelter management groups, infrastructure leaders, the shops and NGOs who worked over the Bank Holiday to supply plywood, sandbags and other critical supplies, our hospitality sector who supported visitors, evacuation flights handled by Cayman Airways and other airlines - in short, everyone who took part in this commendable and collaborative effort.

Your commitment and hard work ensured the safety of our people and demonstrated the value of partnership in a crisis.  At the start of what is predicted to be a very active hurricane season, this tested our structures and our resolve – let us all remain vigilant and well prepared for the months ahead.
