The Department of Environmental Health (DEH) is thanking residents and continuing to encourage them to work together to preserve the beauty of the Cayman Islands.

Over the last few weeks, DEH crews have doubled their efforts to fight illegal dumping across Grand Cayman. Massive illegal dumping of bulk items and construction material have been found at the Ed Bush Sport Complex in West Bay, at the Newlands Bypass and more recently at the Bodden Town’s temporary site used for the post storm clean-up.

“These sites have been cleared on multiple occasions. However, since the last call made to residents to stop illegal dumping, remain vigilant and report this unlawful practice, the sites have remained clean. This is just an example of what we can achieve working together”, said Mr. Richard Simms, DEH’s Director.

Despite most people will be taking time off to enjoying the holidays, the DEH’s Food & Safety, District Sanitation, Engineering, Laboratory and Solid Waste teams will continue to operate over the holidays to deliver the essential services they provide to ensure a safe and clean Cayman Islands.

Meanwhile, Michael Haworth, DEH’s Assistant Director Solid Waste is appealing for the public’s patience and understanding if collections may be delayed during the oncoming public holidays. “We are committed to attend to everyone to provide our collection and disposal services. We will be out in full force visiting everyone’s homes, as we understand the critical role we play in the community”, he reiterated.
