Local not-for-profit organisation Literacy Is For Everyone (LIFE), partnered with Intertrust Group, a world-leader in specialised administration services for corporate, fund, capital market and private wealth business, to provide all government primary schools in the Cayman Islands with curated inclass libraries for all year groups and all levels of readers. As part of LIFE’s Class Libraries Project, and with an initial donation of over CI$55,000, Intertrust Group funded the donation of 5,100 books for classroom libraries at Theoline McCoy Primary School, Grand Cayman, and West End Primary School, Cayman Brac, for the first phase of the project. Additionally, the donation included seven sets of Ruth Miskin Linked Texts, which support the new Read Write Inc. Phonics programme implemented by the Cayman government beginning September 2019. Now an additional six local primary schools, including East End Primary School, Edna Moyle Primary School, Red Bay Primary School and Lighthouse School have access to supplementary curriculum materials. Intertrust Group will fulfil its ongoing commitment of a further CI$ 111k as Phase 2 launches this month, the next step in ensuring every public school classroom in Cayman has a print-rich environment to foster literacy and a passion for the written word. Daniel Rewalt, a director on Intertrust Group Cayman’s management team said: “Our team is committed to corporate social responsibility in Cayman and partnering with LIFE is in line with our mission to support local youth and their educational development. It is an honour to provide thousands of classroom library books to facilitate and celebrate literacy for all children in the Cayman Islands.” Juliet Austin, LIFE’s Executive Director, stated, “Communication is currency in our 21st century world. We applaud Intertrust Group’s insight in recognising the power of literacy as a driver of social change and mobility in our community and the world at large. Literacy is empowerment and Intertrust’s donation shows a sincere commitment to investing in the future of these islands.”
