Lord Marc Lancaster, Honorary Colonel of the Cayman Islands Regiment is on a short visit to the Cayman Islands this week. Lord Lancaster, who played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Regiment, met with the Hon. Premier Juliana O’Connor-Connolly and Hon. Sabrina Turner, Minister for Home Affairs to discuss the strategic development of the unit.

The discussions focused on succession planning, with a long-term goal of achieving 100% Caymanian enlistment in the Regiment. This marks an important step towards bolstering local involvement and ensuring the future growth and sustainability of the Cayman Islands Regiment.

Premier O’Connor-Connolly expressed her appreciation for Lord Lancaster’s continued support, stating, “Lord Lancaster has been instrumental in shaping the Cayman Islands Regiment, and we are grateful for his unwavering commitment and being a champion of such. This visit provides a valuable opportunity to strengthen our vision of a fully Caymanian Regiment, ensuring its resilience and leadership for generations to come.”

Lord Lancaster, who missed his visit last year, expressed his eagerness to reconnect with key stakeholders and review the Regiment’s progress. He began his visit on Friday morning with breakfast hosted at Government House with members of Hazard Management Cayman Islands and the Ministry of Home Affairs. During his time in the Cayman Islands, he will be attending various exercises performed by the Cayman Islands Regiment on base and satellite locations. He is set to depart on Sunday, 13 October.
