The Ministry of Sustainability & Climate Resiliency recently facilitated the planting of 20 native and endemic trees at the Sir John A. Cumber Primary School in West Bay, alongside student prefects and representatives of the school’s Eco Council. This tree planting was supported by a generous donation by Deloitte to the Ministry’s National Tree Planting Programme.

Expressing her gratitude for Deloitte's commitment to sustainability, Minister for Sustainability & Climate Resiliency Hon. Katherine Ebanks-Wilks remarked, "This donation highlights the role that private organisations can play in supporting biodiversity conservation and climate change initiatives throughout our community. The Cayman Islands Government is thankful for Deloitte’s recognition and support of the Ministry's National Tree Planting Programme. We look forward to continued collaboration on impactful initiatives that benefit the environment and the community that we all share."

With member firms in over 150 countries and territories, Deloitte provides audit, consulting, financial advisory, risk advisory, tax, and related services to clients across industries, assisting them in overcoming complex challenges and achieving sustainable growth. Deloitte is dedicated to driving innovation and delivering solutions that contribute to a sustainable, prosperous future for the Cayman Islands.

“Deloitte’s community investment mandate is heavily focused on making a positive impact on our Cayman Islands society and environment. As part of our WorldClimate sustainability commitment, we are honoured to collaborate with the Ministry in support of this key environmental initiative. We look forward to our continued partnership towards preserving the natural resources and biodiversity of our Islands,” said Odette Samson, Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability Leader at Deloitte Cayman Islands.

The National Tree Planting Programme, launched in 2022 to commemorate Her Late Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, is one of the Ministry's key programmes to promote and conserve biodiversity, mitigate the effects of climate change, and increase public awareness and participation.

Through partnerships with private sector companies like Deloitte, the Ministry aims to expand the reach of its initiatives to maximize their positive impacts on the community, including promoting more public green spaces where communities and the natural environment co-exist.
