The Ministry of Commerce, Planning and Infrastructure wishes to announce the recent appointment of Darvy Whittaker and Leah Watson to new positions within the Ministry.
Mr. Whittaker will now serve as the Deputy Director, Service Delivery in the Computer Services Department with responsibility for all aspects of information systems user experience across the Cayman Islands Government. He will provide strategic management and administrative support to the Director of Computer Services Department with oversight for service management and integration of data centre and network services, database management, desktop support services and service desk management.
Mr. Whittaker, who has over thirty years of experience in information technology service delivery, has held several posts within the Computer Services Department including as Acting Deputy Director for Service Delivery, Information Technology System Manager, Senior System Administrator and Computer Technician.
He holds a Master of Science degree in Information System Management from the University of Liverpool and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Howard University. He is also a graduate of the International College of the Cayman Islands where he completed an Associate degree in Business Administration.
Director of Computer Services, Mr. Simon Spiers has congratulated Mr Whittaker on his appointment stating, “After a year of development, Darvy stepped up to the plate, competed in an open recruitment and was clearly the best candidate for the job”.
Mr Whittaker said he looks forward to “managing the successful implementation and operation of the organizations’ overall information technology service management processes to ensure the delivery of an efficient and reliable information technology infrastructure and operations to meet the needs of the Cayman Islands Government”.
Ms. Leah Watson has now assumed the position of Policy Assistant within the Ministry. In her new role, she will assist with the delivery of commissioned projects, undertake research activities and support the administration of projects and policy development.
Ms. Watson, who previously served as Executive Officer, is a graduate of John Gray High School and is currently pursuing an Associate degree in Public Administration at the Cayman Islands Civil Service College.
In regard to her new assignment, she noted her enthusiasm for the “opportunity to engage in a range of policy issues within a highly collaborative environment”.
Chief Human Resources Officer in the Ministry of Commerce, Planning and Infrastructure, Ms. Melinda Montemayor said “it was a pleasure working closely with Darvy in his acting capacity and watching him succeed in each area of his development plan. He took on each challenge with enthusiasm and a can-do attitude. Darvy is a great asset to the Computer Services Department and is well respected amongst his peers”.
She further stated, “Similarly, over the years Leah has worked on her own development plan with our team. She has been given the opportunity to learn new tasks to help her excel in areas where she needed development. Both Darvy and Leah have worked hard and I join my Ministry colleagues in congratulating both of them on their achievements”.
Acting Chief Officer in the Ministry, Ms. Tamara Ebanks, commented on the appointments, “I could not be more proud of the talent we develop and cultivate within the Computer Services Department and the Ministry on a whole. Darvy and Leah are incredible contributors and team members who will continue to grow and impact our work in their roles. Both of them are outstanding Caymanians who are hardworking and capable professionals and I am pleased to see them progress within the ranks of the civil service”.
