The newly formed National Sports Commission held its first official meeting on Monday 3 April 2023 at Government Administration Building. The Commission comprises of 11 appointed members from both public and private sectorwho each represent different athletic disciplines. Members met with stakeholders from the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture and Heritage before engaging in dialogue on the Commission’s areas of focus.
The Commission is chaired by Mr. Neil Murray and co-chaired by Mr. Ronnie Roach; other voting members include Mr. Osbert Francis, Ms. Shakeina Bush, Mrs. Heather Harvey, Mrs. Jade Parker, Mr. Michael Holding, and Dr. Verley Campbell. Non-voting members include Mr. Robert Lewis, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Sports. The members were appointed by Cabinet and will serve until December 2024.
The Hon. Minister Bernie Bush thanked the members for volunteering their time and expertise to serve on this Commission. "Establishing the National Sports Commission will strengthen, regulate and develop the Cayman Islands' sporting sector and update the expired National Sports Policy and Strategic Plan." said Minister Bush.
Both the National Youth Policy and the National Sports Policy are currently in the procurement process for consultation and development until tomorrow Thursday 6 April. The public can expect to learn more about these initiatives, as well as their respective Commissions in the coming weeks.
