The Census of Population and Housing of the Cayman Islands is scheduled to start on 10 October 2021.

As this is fast approaching, the Economics and Statistics Office, in cooperation with the multi-sectoral Census Advisory Committee and its sub-committees, is organising the official launch of the Census.

The launch is scheduled in Cayman Brac on Friday, 21 May 2021 at the District Administration Building grounds in Stake Bay at 10 am and in Grand Cayman on Wednesday 26 May, 2021 at the Marriott Resort at 10 am. The launch at the Brac is also in cooperation with the office of the Sister Islands’ District Commissioner.

Members of the public are invited to attend and participate in both events.

Both events will mark the start of an education and publicity campaign on the importance of the Census in planning a better future for Cayman as well as how everyone counts in making it a successful national activity.

Messages at the launches will underscore the importance of Census 2021. On Grand Cayman, speakers include His Excellency the Governor, Mr. Martyn Roper, CBE, who is also the Patron for Census 2021; the Premier and Minister for Sustainability and Climate Resiliency, Hon. Wayne Panton, JP, MP; and the Deputy Premier and Minister for Finance, Economic Development and Labour, Hon. Christopher Saunders, JP, MP.

On Cayman Brac, Minister for Education, District Administration, Lands and Survey, Hon. Juliana O’Connor-Connolly, JP, and District Commissioner Mr. Mark Tibbetts, JP will be among those providing messages.

Financial Secretary and Chief Officer in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, Mr. Kenneth Jefferson, JP will open both launches.

The launch will also introduce the Census spokespersons from various sectors,

census’ various processes, participants, benefits and uses in broad terms.

A specially created Census jingle will also be unveiled at the Brac launch and will be included in the Grand Cayman launch as well. At both events, school children will sing the jingle.

A sign-up of potential Census workers is envisioned to cap both programmes.

The Master of Ceremonies of the Cayman Brac event will be Prevention Educator Mr. Keino Daley. His counterpart in the Grand Cayman event will be Radio Cayman talk show host Mr. Sterling Dwayne Ebanks.
