Sunday 28th April marked the twice-yearly sailing boat fundraiser for local charity One Dog At A Time! The event was well attended by families and couples and the weather was glorious as the boat glided gracefully into the crystal blue waters, heading towards one of the coral reefs.

An amazing array of sea-life could be seen by the enthusiastic snorkellers before moving to Stingray City. Met by the hungry and attentive fish, guests of the Allura could swim and touch the stingrays, guided by experts Shannon and David. After lunch, the boat sailed in the gentle, rippling ocean towards Starfish Point, where it nestled in the shallows, allowing passengers to have a last hour or so soaking up the rays and relaxing!

As the Allura set sail homeward bound, the guests were tired and happy! “We always come on the ODAAT boat-trip, ” said Hamish Hamilton “as it’s incredible value for money, a scrummy lunch is always included and I’m supporting my favourite charity!” This event raised over $1500, which will help towards vets bills, food and routine medications for the charity. ODAAT would like to say a huge thank you to the owner and crew of Allura and all their supporters.

One Dog at a Time has so far rescued over 40 dogs in the last year, despite the changes to exporting dogs to only include dogs over 6 months old. “This alteration has caused substantial difficulties for all the rescue groups. Previously we have been able to send dogs to the United States from around 12 – 16 weeks old. This freed up our foster homes and enabled us to rescue more abandoned or pound pooches.” Said Caroline Johnston, vice president of the charity. “We are seeking additional fosters to try and allow us to continue rescuing without affecting the quality of care all our dogs and puppies receive in their loving foster homes. There is no major outlay for the fosters, apart from giving their time. We provide everything the dog or pup needs; from puppy pads to towels, from crates to food.”

Their next fundraiser is on the 17th May 2019, at the Camana Bay movie theatre with the premiere of  ‘A Dog’s Journey.’ The sequel to ‘A Dog’s Purpose’,  and the movie starts at 19:00. Tickets cost just $15 per person and includes a popcorn and drink deal. The first 50 tickets sold will receive an Agua Voucher. A 50/50 draw will also be held on the night! The event has been kindly sponsored by PWC and Agua.

The One Dog at a Time shop is open every Saturday from 08:00 to 17:00 and on Wednesdays from 10:00- 14:00. All sorts of bargains can be found; clothes, shoes, fashion accessories, household goods, electrical equipment and furniture. The store can be found on Industrial Way, opposite Ropers at the JJT Warehouses, Row 2, Unit 2.
