Shortly before 12:15AM, 16 February, officers were conducting a vehicle checkpoint at the Yacht Drive roundabout in West Bay when a vehicle approached the checkpoint with its hazard lights on. Officers approached the vehicle and observed that one of the occupants had what appeared to be a serious wound to the midsection and was being transported to hospital. A police vehicle escorted the vehicle to the Cayman Islands Hospital, where the victim was admitted for treatment for the injury.
Following enquiries officers ascertained that the victim had been at the West Bay Public Beach when an altercation ensued with another man, who stabbed him in the midsection. Officers subsequently located the suspect in the matter, a man age 37, at an address in West Bay, where he was arrested on suspicion of assault GBH and possession of an offensive weapon. He remains in custody as investigations continue.
The victim in the matter remains in hospital in serious but stable condition.
