Police Report Increase in Commercial Robberies
Over the last week, police have responded to four burglary reports, of which, three have been at commercial properties located in George Town.
The first incident was reported on 4 August and took place at a beauty salon off Goring Avenue, where salon equipment, electronics and other items were stolen from the location.
On 5 August, a restaurant located on Shedden Road reported that someone broke into the property and stole food and other miscellaneous items from the location.
The third commercial burglary report last week took place at a business located on Mary Street, where electrical tools and gas tanks were stolen from the property.
So far this year, just under 30 commercial burglaries have been reported to the police. The public is being asked to take preventative measures with their business in order to avoid loss and damage. Particularly, the police encourage business owners to increase security if possible by engaging security company services, installing alarm and camera systems and ensuring that the systems are maintained and kept up to date.
Superintendent Peter Lansdown said "It's important to ensure that cameras are positioned in such a way that they cannot be easily tampered with, and that they are placed to ensure the best possible visuals to identify an intruder. We also ask business owners not to keep large amounts of cash on their premises if possible, especially overnight and throughout the weekends and to stagger drop off times to avoid being monitored".
