Police Respond to Water-Related Death in West Bay

Shortly after 10:30AM, Sunday 5 May, police and other emergency services responded to a report of a person in distress at Cemetery Beach, West Bay.

On arriving at the scene police observed fire officers administering CPR on a unresponsive woman on the beach.

It was reported to police that the woman had been snorkeling with a family member when she experienced difficulty. Assistance was given by members of the public in the vicinity who helped bring the woman to shore where CPR was administered until emergency services arrived and took over.

The woman was taken to George Town Hospital by ambulance, where she was pronounced deceased by the attending doctor. The woman, a 72-year-old from the USA, was a visitor.

Inquiries into the circumstances of the death are currently ongoing, but are not believed to be suspicious at this time.

The RCIPS expresses its condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
