The People’s Progressive Movement (PPM) welcomes the withdrawal of the National Conservation (Amendment) Bill, 2024, a necessary step to ensure that legislative changes uphold both environmental protection and sound governance. The withdrawal of this bill highlights the importance of thorough legislative review.
The PPM has once again demonstrated our commitment to putting the Cayman Islands first. Our approach was not about scoring political points through distractions and PR activities, but about finding practical solutions that uphold the Constitution and ensure a proper balance of power. Joseph “Joey” Hew and the PPM team worked closely with the government to ensure recognition of the need to address these issues, and are pleased that these efforts have led to the withdrawal of the bill.
Joseph ‘Joey’ Hew thanks Hon. Dwayne Seymour, Minister for Sustainability & Climate Resiliency and Wellness for putting the country first and engaging in constructive dialogue. He also emphasised “Our PPM team remains dedicated to a governance approach that prioritises solutions over division, encourages collaboration with all stakeholders, and ensures that any future amendments to the NCC Act are constitutionally sound, well-balanced, and in the best interests of the Cayman Islands.”
As the Cayman Islands move forward, the PPM will continue to focus on delivering real solutions on key national issues, without unnecessary distractions.
