On Friday, 19 January, the Honourable Juliana O'Connor-Connolly, Premier, Minister for Finance, Education, District Administration & Lands and Cabinet Office, handed over a brand-new bookmobile to the Cayman Brac Public Library.
"This mobile library will be an invaluable asset to Cayman Brac," Premier O'Connor-Connolly declared. "It will bring the library's vast collection of books and resources directly to residents, sparking a love of reading and fostering intellectual curiosity across the entire community."
The bookmobile, a 2023 Toyota Hiace, will become a cornerstone of the library's outreach programme, reaching schools, senior homes, individuals with limited mobility, and others who might struggle to access library services.
"We are incredibly grateful for this vital addition to our vehicular fleet," stated the Cayman Islands Public Library Services Acting Director, Mr. Kevin Goring. "We will start with basic outreach in February but have exciting plans to expand the bookmobile's services throughout the year."
Expansion plans include using the vehicle to facilitate pop-up reading stations and as a mobile hotspot for community events.
To request the bookmobile's services, schools and other community organisations may call the Cayman Brac Public Library at (345) 948-0472.
