The Standing Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will hold a public hearing on Thursday, 11th January at 10:00 a.m. on the Auditor General’s report, “Financial Reporting of the Cayman Islands Government: General Report 31 December 2022 (October 2023)”.
PAC Members reviewed and discussed the Auditor General’s report on the state of the Cayman Islands Government’s financial reporting at its regular administrative meeting on 1st November, 2023. The Committee agreed to hold a public hearing to further investigate elements of the report.
Mr. Michael Nixon will attend as a witness in his capacity as the Acting Financial Secretary & Chief Officer of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, and will be accompanied by Mr. Matthew Tibbetts, Accountant General. Additional witnesses called by the Committee include Honourable Franz Manderson, Deputy Governor and Head of the Civil Service, as well as Mr. Taraq Bashir, Director of the Central Procurement Office.
The PAC had Tabled its report to the Parliament in April 2023, on the Auditor General’s previous General Report, in which it fully endorsed the recommendations made by the Auditor General. The Committee also included one formal recommendation to the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, namely to make a detailed assessment of the cost of implementing Section 47 of the Public Authorities Act to include non-monetary benefits for Statutory Authorities & Government Companies.
The PAC’s hearing is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. on 11th January and is anticipated to conclude by 1:00 p.m. The proceedings can be viewed live on the Cayman Islands Government’s YouTube channel and on CIGTV. The public can also view the proceedings live at the House of Parliament after checking-in with Security.
Following the Hearing, the Committee will meet for its regular administrative meeting.
