Local dance studio Quinntessential Movement is gearing up to take audiences Across The Universe with their upcoming pole and aerial theatre showcase.
Around 75 performers will take to the stage at The Harquail Theatre to dance, sing and swing their way through space and time in two unique shows.
"For this year's pole and aerial theatre showcase, we've created two distinct shows to give our students the best opportunity to share their diverse range of talents," Quinntessential Movement owner and instructor Quinn McCrimmon said.
Each show will feature performers showcasing their skills on the pole, aerial silk and hoop, and the dance floor while tackling slightly different perspectives on the 'Across The Universe' theme.
"Our evening performances on Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27, will see our adult performers highlighting their strength and grace as they present a more mature storyline through the Adult Shows," Quinn shared.
"Our junior performers will join the adult performers during the Family-Friendly matinee show on Sunday, April 28, and take audiences of all ages on a fun and exciting journey through a colourful universe."
The performers, aged five to 50 plus, have devoted their evenings and weekends over the last three months to bringing Across The Universe to the stage.
"Watching our students' skills, strength, and confidence grow throughout this process is honestly the most rewarding experience for all the studio's instructors," Quinn said.
"Some students have been performing with us since Quinntessential Movement first opened in 2016, and some have only been a part of our community for a few months."
"Several of our performers have even taken on the challenge of choreographing their own dances for the Across The Universe showcase," Quinn excitedly shared.
Beyond defying gravity with their performances, Quinn also hopes these shows will help defy expectations of what pole and aerial theatre has to offer.
"From our first showcase at The Harquail Theatre, with our tiny troupe of performers bringing Alice In Wonderland to life like never before in Cayman, Quinntessential Movement has always sought to highlight what amazing storytelling pole and aerial theatre has to offer," Quinn noted.
"With the Across The Universe showcase, we are thrilled to now be using the medium to tell our own stories. And there will be more of that to come in the future!"
