This past week officers responded to 92 motor vehicle collision reports, a higher than average number for the period. Of these, the vast majority were damage only collisions with minor damage reported. Five of these collisions resulted in drivers being arrested on suspicion of DUI, with three additional DUI arrests made from proactive vehicle stops over the weekend. In one of these the driver was stopped after a check with the handheld scanner revealed the vehicle’s license had been expired for over four years.
Police are taking this opportunity to remind the public to practice safe driving habits. Do not drink and drive, reduce your speed on the roadways, give 100% of your attention to driving and especially, ensure that you do not use your mobile phones while driving.
“As we move further into 2025, it remains as important as ever to stay safe on our roads,” says Chief Superintendent Brad Ebanks. “Persons are still taking unnecessary risks when driving making it very unsafe for themselves and other road users, which is why we continue to prosecute motorists who do so.”
“However, we would like to recognise and thank the members of our community who do continue to ensure their safety and the safety of others by making good driving decisions and driving defensively, which means driving with caution, following the rules of the road and being aware of your surroundings so that you can identify and avoid dangerous road situations.”
