Just before 11 PM on Saturday 27 February, police were dispatched by the 9-1-1 Communications Centre to a report of a woman walking on the Esterly Tibbetts Highway. The woman was said to have appeared under the influence of drug and was said to have been throwing rocks at vehicles traversing the highway.
Officers responded to the area of Safe Haven on the Esterly Tibbetts Highway, where they located the woman who reacted irrationally and showed heightened anxiety when approached by the officers who were in uniform and ran into the roadway towards oncoming traffic.
The officers temporarily stopped the traffic on the roadway and apprehended the woman for her safety. The woman became extremely hostile and assaulted the officers during their efforts, causing both officers minor injuries.
It was later discovered that the woman was in violation of her court order and she was arrested on suspicion of failing to comply with a court order as well as assaulting police.
She was taken to the GT hospital for medical assessment and later safely removed to the CI Detention Centre and will appear in court later.
The incident is being investigated by the police.
