The Breast Cancer Foundation is proud to announce that Selita Ebanks will be the guest speaker at this year’s Breast Cancer Foundation Gala, which will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman.
“The Foundation is very excited and proud to say that Selita Ebanks will be here to support us at this year’s Gala dinner,” said Janette Fitzgerald, Chief Administrator, Breast Cancer Foundation of Cayman. “Selita is an active humanitarian working with Shine on Sierra Leone, New Yorkers for Children, Cayman’s Stardom Youth Foundation and now as our guest speaker at this year’s Gala.”
Discovered at the age of 17, Selita Ebanks, born in New York and raised partly in her Mother’s native Cayman Islands, quickly rose through the ranks to become one of the most sought after and respected models of her generation. Gracing the covers of such magazines as Esquire, Teen Vogue, Maxim, Hampton Style and Ocean Drive, Selita has been also been featured in Vogue and Vanity Fair, among other international publications and landed beauty campaigns for Bobby Brown, Clinique and MAC Cosmetics.
“Cancer is something that affects us all,” added Selita Ebanks. “It has no face, size, religion, race or age. Breast cancer is possibly the most serious health issue women face. 1 in 8 will develop some form of invasive breast cancer and until that statistic is no more, I will continue to lend my voice to support awareness to help eradicate and manage incidences of breast cancer for everyone."
After joining fashion icons Heidi Klum, Gisele Bundchen, Adriana Lima and replacing Tyra Banks as a Victoria’s Secret Angel in 2005, Selita went on to be named one of People Magazine’s Most
Beautiful People and was featured in Sports Illustrated’s illustrious Swimsuit Issue in 2007, 2008 and landing a 2009 cover for the Sports Illustrated’s calendar.
As the leading lady for quintessential American fashion brands such as Ralph Lauren, Abercrombie & Fitch, Levi’s and Tommy Hilfiger, Selita was ranked by Forbes as the 13th highest paid model in 2010. The American-Jamaican-Caymanian beauty also made a name for herself in television, appearing on top series like Still Standing (2006), Hawaii Five-O (2011), The Game (2012), the BET sitcom The Real Husbands of Hollywood (2014) alongside Kevin Hart and more. She also worked with Michael Ealy in About Last Night (2014). Additionally, Selita has been featured in shorts such as Kanye West’s Runaway (2010), the David Spade spoof Catfish (2013), cohosted MTV Catfish (2014) as well as produced and co-hosted BET's annual fashion program Rip The Runway (2011 and 2012).
Due to COVID-19 protocols, the number of tickets available for this year’s Gala has been reduced, but this event is fully covered by the hotel’s exemption. The Foundation is confident that this year’s event although different, will be fun evening for all attendees. The black tie (actually pink tie), event starts at 6 p.m. with a champagne reception followed by a sumptuous three-course meal, wine included.
The Breast Cancer Foundation is looking for sponsors for the event, as well as donations for the auctions. If you are interested, please contact Janette Fitzgerald at info@breastcancerfoundation.ky or call 923-1135.
