The Ministry of Education is pleased to announce an amendment to the name of the Sharon (Marie) Martin Primary School. It will now be officially named the Marie Martin Primary School. This change reflects the wishes of its namesake, Ms. Marie Martin, a former principal whose dedication to education continues to inspire the George Town community.
Earlier this year, Cabinet approved the renaming of George Town Primary School in her honour. During the 13 February ceremony, Ms. Martin expressed her preference for the name "Marie Martin Primary School," which she said reflects the name by which she is known within the community.
"We are incredibly proud to have the Marie Martin Primary School reflect Ms. Martin's wish for a name that resonates with the George Town community," said the Honourable Andre Ebanks, Acting Premier and Acting Minister for Education. "This name will serve as a constant reminder of her dedication and inspire generations of students and educators."
The Ministry and the Department of Education Services (DES) are diligently working to ensure a smooth transition for the school. All signage and materials will be updated by the start of the 2024/25 academic year.
